While classrooms sat quiet and hallways empty during winter break, Community Consolidated School District 21 was anything but idle. Teams of workers mobilized across the district to tackle vital upgrades and improvements aimed at enhancing school facilities and creating better learning environments for students and staff.
“Our goal was to make every minute of downtime count,” said Micheal DeBartolo, assistant superintendent for finance and operations/CSBO. “Winter break provides a unique opportunity to perform projects that could otherwise disrupt learning. We’re thrilled with what we’ve accomplished in such a short time.”
Projects included:
The renovation of Cooper’s gymnasium, along with the installation of updated LED lighting, marks the end of a wishlist by district officials to have all three middle school main gym floors sanded, restriped and refinished during the 2024-2025 school year. Holmes and London had their work completed during the summer break.
The overall slate of projects not only supports the district’s vision for ongoing improvements, but also sets the stage for new initiatives planned during the spring and summer.
