Dear CCSD21 families,

With the approaching end of Trimester 1, I wanted to outline the process the district will be using for parent requests for transfer of students from in-person learning to the Distance Learning Academy or vice versa. The first trimester of our very different school year has experienced its share of uncertainty and transition. As in-person learning began on October 5th, we have processed hundreds of student transfer requests.

As we move into the remainder of the school year, it will be important to provide as stable and consistent a learning environment for students as possible. Ultimately, the frequent movement of students and staff between the in-person and DLA programs will have a negative impact on the overall educational experience of children across the district. As such, moving forward the district will be limiting the time frame in which transfer requests will be accepted and processed to those transition points between trimesters.

It is important for parents to note that requesting a transfer of a student at this point will result in your child having new teachers and if moving from in-person to the Distance Learning Academy, there is no ability to guarantee that your child will have teachers or classmates from your home school.

In addition, should the district receive a large number of requests for transfer, it may result in an additional need to transfer faculty and staff to accommodate larger enrollment in either the in-person or Distance Learning programs. Transfers of staff may result in additional changes to students’ classroom placements.

Parents wishing to submit a transfer request are asked to contact your child’s home school principal’s office by 3:30 PM on Friday, November 13, 2020 and indicate if you are seeking a transfer from in-person learning to the Distance Learning Academy or from the Distance Learning Academy to in-person learning. Please do not submit your request to your child’s teacher(s).

Requests for transfer will be processed and new student placements will begin on Monday, November 30, 2020. Parents will be informed of their child’s new classroom assignments by the close of business on Wednesday, November 25th.

Families that do NOT wish to change their child’s placement through the end of the second trimester (February 26, 2021) do not need to take any action at this time
