Important update to Dundee Road traffic patterns for week of March 17

March 17, 2025

Topic: Updates

We want to keep you informed about the Village of Wheeling’s upcoming water main project on Dundee Road. Staging for the project began today, March 17, and while this early work is not expected to affect current traffic patterns, it may cause some backups during peak times. Throughout the day today, we have been working with the village to limit any disruptions to traffic patterns on Dundee during the week of March 17.

As of now, and expected through at least Friday, March 21:

  • There are no restrictions for westbound vehicles turning left into London Middle School

  • There are no restrictions for eastbound vehicles turning left into the subdivision surrounding Field Elementary School

  • Vehicles exiting London can still turn left onto westbound Dundee Road

  • Vehicles exiting Cedar Drive can still turn left onto eastbound Dundee Road

Currently, the only changes drivers may notice are that Dundee Road is reduced to one lane in each direction in certain areas near the school, and that the westbound left-turn lane into London will be supported by police presence to help manage traffic. However, this may result in backups during drop-off and pick-up times.

Any additional changes that occur during the week of March 17 will be communicated with parents and staff as soon as possible.

The village’s project is officially scheduled to begin on Saturday, March 22, and once work begins in full, more significant traffic impacts will occur, including:

  • Westbound vehicles will no longer be able to turn left into London

  • Vehicles exiting London will not be able to turn left onto westbound Dundee Road

  • Vehicles exiting Cedar Drive will not be able to turn left onto eastbound Dundee Road

Fortunately, school will not be in session from March 22-30 for Spring Break, helping to reduce the impact of the early stages of construction. The village’s goal is for the project to be largely complete when school resumes on March 31, though work may continue into that week depending on weather and progress.

We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and will share additional information regarding traffic flow and school access before students return.

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as this important infrastructure project gets underway.
